Dr. Kathleen Elstrott is a home-grown girl from Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Both her parents are from New Orleans, met at SLU in Hammond, got married, and moved to Ponchatoula. Dr. Elstrott attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Ponchatoula High School. She graduated from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, Louisiana in 2003. Dr. Elstrott returned home to Ponchatoula in 2014, purchased the house next door to her parents’ home, and joined the staff at Ponchatoula Animal Hospital. Dr. Elstrott married Jason Achord in 2017. Their life is filled with Jeeps, traveling, and too many cats to mention (WB, Kuro, Jethreaux, Jimmy, Maggie, Lucia, Curly, Butters, and Sassy II). They also have dogs in their pet family including: Bunnie – an Australian Shepherd mix that found Dr. Elstrott running the railroad tracks by her apartment during vet school; Beaux – a Golden Retriever that she rescued in Florida (he is her favorite, but don’t tell the others); Koby – a Dutch Shepherd who is a 3-legged retired Military Working Dog; Blue Belle – 100% mutt adopted rescue; and Lilly – a hound mix stray puppy who survived parvo and is now Jason’s Jeep dog. If there isn't enough fur in the house, Dr. Elstrott and her husband also foster kittens for Saints SPCA.
In her spare time, Dr. Elstrott spends a lot of time giving back to the community. She serves as Secretary for the Ponchatoula Rotary Club, on the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Board, she is the former Vice-President of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce, and she is a board member of Tangipahoa Animal Friends. Additionally, Dr. Elstrott is a member of Tangipahoa Professional Women, the Junior Auxiliary of Hammond, and she is a graduate of the Leadership Tangipahoa Class of 2018.
